Helen Page Camp got her start in acting rather late in life. In 1968, at the age of 38, she landed a minor role on the Western/comedy series, "Here Come the Brides." By 1971 Camp had come to the attention of TV producer Norman Lear. She played a nun on one episode of Lear's controversial sitcom "All in the Family," then was cast as Mrs. Watson in his 1971 satirical comedy, "Cold Turkey." In early 1976 Camp played the heroines' landlady, Mrs. Havenwurst, for two episodes on the ABC sitcom "Laverne & Shirley." However, her small recurring role was short-lived, and by the fall of that year the comedienne Betty Garrett replaced Camp. In 1990 she landed her most recognized role, as the well-to-do housewife Margaret Furth on the first season of "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." That role would be one of Camp's last: she died in 1991, the cause uncertain.
