Richard Schickel TIME Magazine Instead of winding tighter and tighter, as a suspense story should, Telefon just winds down, rather like -- come to think of it -- a phone call between two people who don't really have much to say to each other. Blu B It's not bad actually. The problems are really in the first half which is just ok and kind of boring. It feels like 2 movies with Bronsan & Lee together trying to hunt down the bad guys and stop the plot and the other with Donald Plesance and the other victims. The two never interact really until the very end so it feels like they never really tie together that well. It's also very uninspired to look at at times too. Which is kind of crazy given this is such a strong director. I think a big issue it's just very grey weather lots of times, and it never stays in one location for long. The explosions are really good though. Apart from the mediocre cinematography is the acting which is just alright too. The two leads don't really have much chemistry together, Bronsan as a Soviet is less believable than Arnold in Red Heart, and pretty much everyone here is forgettable. Heck it feels like Bronsan just diappears at times. Everything else is half decent though thanks to the final 30 minutes or so pickup. There really isn't much suspense because we know what's happening right from the start so it's not like Manchrian Candidate. Lots of this film is just the two leads talking in rooms or cars on the road and it just gets very boring. The premise is interesting and when it throws a twist in at the end it does work. It's cut from the same cloth as something like Three Days of the Condor and Manchurian Candidate but nowhere near as refined. If your a die hard fan of any actors here or Siegal maybe check it out. But most could skip this and not miss much. Too it's credit it's never really convuluted and can be followed though. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/05/25 Full Review Audience Member A great spy thriller movie having excellent work by Charles Bronson and Lee Remick, love to see it again and agian. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Great 70's movie with a good script. This even could even be true, not just fiction. Realistic like any 007 or Mission Impossible movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review delysid d death wish was his best movie Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/02/18 Full Review Audience Member Not too realistic, but probably one of the first movies that tried to be balanced in depiction of the Russians. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Slow moving with a laconic Bronson taking his sweet time doing much of anything. There is zero chemistry between the leads and the ending is lame. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews
