Chan Hing-Kai
Since 1986, writer/director Chan Hing-ka has proven himself a major player on the South East Asian film scene. The screenplay for his first flick, "A Better Tomorrow," was a collaboration with legendary action filmmaker John Woo, and won Best Picture at the Hong Kong Film Awards. The plot revolves around an ex-gangster attempting to extricate himself from his past, and features Chow Yun-Fat in a supporting role. In 1994, Chan penned the script for "Thunderbolt," which features iconic stuntmaster extraordinaire Jackie Chan as a mechanic and street racer hot on the trail of his kidnapped sister. The Hong Kong Film Awards honored Chan's writing in 1999, when he took home a statue for Best Screenplay for "Beast Cops." The film ranks among the most celebrated in China's history, scoring four other awards including Best Picture. Chan first tried his hand at directing in 2001, helming the offbeat romantic comedy "Chuet Sai Hiu Bra," which relates the misadventures of two male clothing designers tasked with creating the ultimate brassiere.
