Jack Orman made his name writing and producing work for the long-running medical drama "ER," and he contributed to that show's success in its headiest moments. It may be difficult to remember now, after all its time on the air, but at a certain point "ER" was very much appointment television, and an episode that Orman wrote for the sixth season of the show, "All in the Family," was second only to the finale of "Seinfeld" as the most-watched television episode at that time. Orman was raised in Paradise Valley, Arizona, and earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Loyola Marymount University. After graduating, he worked briefly on the short-lived but well reviewed Mary Tyler Moore drama "New York News," and then became a freelance writer for the show "JAG," a mix of "Top Gun" and "A Few Good Men" that kept him in work as both writer and later producer until he joined the "ER" team. After leaving that show, Orman created two television shows to star Joe Pantoliano, the casino-based crime drama "Dr. Vegas" and a drama about Rhode Island politics, "Waterfront." After both shows were cancelled, Orman found more success as a producer and writer on "Men of a Certain Age," a comedy about middle-aged men starring Ray Romano. In 2010, Orman executive produced and wrote the TV-movie "Matadors," about competing wealthy families in Chicago, starring Michael Rooker and Stephen Lang.
