JD Lawrence
J.D. Lawrence was an American actor, playwright, musician and producer who was one of the stars and creators of the Bravo docuseries "Your Husband Is Cheating on Us" (Bravo, 2018- ). Born and raised in Amityville, New York, Lawrence was born with a stutter that brought him a great deal of stress as a child. Determined to overcome the speech impediment, Lawrence would go out in public as characters he invented in his head, thus giving him the freedom to speak as someone else. The trick worked, and before long, he was able to overcome his stutter. In high school Lawrence began playing the piano and trombone, and after graduation began singing professionally. He soon started writing his own songs, and before long was writing material for A-list acts like Paula Abdul and Hall and Oates. Never one to slow down, Lawrence also began acting and producing stage plays around this time. By the 2000s he had either produced, written or starred in over a dozen plays, joining the ranks of talents like Tyler Perry as one of the urban theater world's most successful creative visionaries. By the early 2010s Lawrence started to branch out into the exciting world of television by producing, writing, directing and starring in such projects as "The Clean Up Woman" (BET, 2010) and "J.D. Lawrence's Community Service" (Gospel Music Channel, 2013). Through 2017, Lawrence continued to produce and create several stage plays with his widely successful production company Who's Laughing Now. Then in 2018 he returned to TV, this time with the Bravo Network, with the docuseries "Your Husband Is Cheating on Us." The series, which followed Lawrence and various actors during the making of Lawrence's new musical, debuted on the cable network in early April of 2018.
