Joe Breen
Four times nominated by the Soap Opera Digest Awards, daytime TV staple Joe Breen is a master of the medium. Married to Carlene Carter (the daughter of "Mr. Country" Carl Smith and virtuoso June Carter, who later married Johnny Cash), Breen is technically the stepson-in-law of country music's iconic Man in Black. His first role came on CBS' "Guiding Light," Guinness Book accredited as the longest-running dramatic serial in history. Listeners tuned to the initial radio broadcast in 1937, and Breen made his first appearance nearly half a century later in 1985. He was nominated two years running for portraying an Outstanding Villain, but left the series in 1989 for rival network ABC's "Loving." Breen enjoyed a three-year stint on the program as Paul Slavinski, and hit real dramatic pay dirt in 1991 on "As the World Turns." Murder suspect and long lost son of superbitch Lisa Grimaldi, Scott Eldridge presented Breen with his juiciest character yet. In 1993, he was nominated twice in the Outstanding Lead Actor category at the Soap Opera Digest Awards for his performances in both "Loving" and "As the World Turns," but won neither.
