John Doman's acting career only began in his mid-40s, but he made up for lost time by racking up over 100 credits including memorable roles in "The Wire" (HBO, 2002-08), "Borgia" (Canal+, 2011-14) and "Gotham" (Fox, 2014-). Born in Philadelphia, PA in 1948, Doman studied English Literature and played varsity football at the University of Pennsylvania before joining the Marine Corps where he served in the Vietnam War. On his return he earned an MBA at Penn State University, going on to work as an advertising executive for over two decades. But Doman had always dreamed of becoming an actor and aged 43 he landed his first screen role in the first of many appearances in the "Law and Order" (NBC, 1990-2010) franchise. Doman never looked back, landing nine different roles in 1995 alone, including bit-parts in "Die Hard with a Vengeance" (1995), "Stonewall" (1995) and "Ultimate Taboo" (1995). Setting the authority figure tone for the rest of his career, Doman then played a Presidential aide in "Cop Land" (1997), U.S. Senator in "Fool's Paradise" (1998) and Russian godfather in "Puppet" (1999). He bagged his first recurring role in 1999 when he was cast as Dr. Carl Deraad in "ER" (NBC, 1994-2009). During his intermittent four-year spell on the medical drama, Doman also played a boxing promoter in "The Opponent" (2000), vengeful war veteran in "Three Blind Mice" (2001) and USS Admiral in "A Glimpse of Hell" (2001), enjoyed minor big-screen roles in "City by the Sea" (2002) and "Mystic River" (2003), and landed recurring parts as convicted rapist Edward Galson in "Oz" (HBO, 1997-2003) and Officer Finlay on "The Practice" (ABC, 1997-2004). Most notably he also starred as no-nonsense Superintendent William A. Rawls on five seasons of "The Wire" (HBO, 2002-08). Doman then added the likes of "Noel" (2004), "Rock the Paint" (2005), "Fatwa" (2006), "Gracie" (2007) and "Sympathetic Details" (2008) to his filmography before taking top billing as gang leader Jim Boone in western "Shoot First and Pray You Live" (2008). Following a one-season stint as villainous CEO Walter Kendrick in "Damages" (FX, 2007-2012), Doman played Michelle Williams' father in "Blue Valentine" (2010), appeared in "The Company Men" (2010) and was cast as mob enforcer Paddy Doyle in "Rizzoli & Isles" (TNT, 2010-16). Doman then landed a rare leading man role, Rodrigo Borgia, aka Pope Alexander VI, in historical epic "Borgia" (Canal+, 2011-14), co-starred alongside Kathleen Quinlan in family drama "After" (2014) and portrayed Senator Ross Garrison in "Person of Interest" (CBS, 2011-16). Doman also enjoyed the recurring roles of Bruce Butler in "The Affair" (Showtime, 2014-), Mafia don Carmine Falcone in "Gotham" (Fox, 2014-) and ruthless businessman Aidan Moran in "Feed the Beast" (AMC, 2016), and guest spots as Bishop Charles Eddis in "House of Cards" (Netflix, 2013-) and CIA Director Dennis Ellerman in "Madam Secretary" (CBS, 2014-). Doman also played US Ambassador to Germany, Richard Hanes, in "Berlin Station" (Epix, 2016-) before returning to film in "You Were Never Really Here" (2017) and "Hard Powder" (2018).
