Kevin Fair

Very few directors earn their job title straight out of the gate; for many, it takes years of working in other behind-the-scenes capacities before their "big break" arrives. Director Kevin Fair spent over a decade working as a first, second, and even third assistant director on TV and film sets, starting in 1996 with his work on "The Sentinel," an action-adventure series starring Richard Burgi. For the remainder of the '90s, Fair worked on a handful of under-the-radar films, including the 1996 music-comedy "Hard Core Logo," but in the 2000s, he started landing gigs on higher profile projects, including the Sylvester Stallone-starring crime drama "Get Carter" and the mystery-thriller "Along Came a Spider." Early in the decade, he worked mostly as a second assistant director, but he graduated to first assistant director on the set of the music-comedy "Josie and the Pussycats." In 2006, he transitioned back into television, working in multiple positions on the set of the small town Superman drama "Smallville." He went through the cycle all over again, moving from second assistant director to first assistant director--even working on the green screen unit for one episode. Meanwhile, he landed his first head honcho directing gig on an episode of the largely ignored comedy "Robson Arms." A few one-off directing jobs later and Fair finally break through as director on "Smallville"--going on to direct a total of 12 episodes, including the show's finale, which aired in 2011.
