KRS-One
KRS-One, born Lawrence Parker on August 20, 1965, is a pioneering figure in hip-hop known for his impactful lyrics and contributions to the genre's development. He rose to fame in the mid-1980s as part of the influential group Boogie Down Productions, alongside DJ Scott La Rock. Their debut album, Criminal Minded (1987), is considered a classic, blending hardcore beats with socially conscious lyrics. Beyond music, KRS-One has made appearances in films and TV shows like" Who's the Man?" (1993) and "Something from Nothing: The Art of Rap" (2012). He was also featured in "The Get Down" (Netflix, 2016-2017), contributing to the narrative of hip-hop's origins. Recently, KRS-One continues to release music, with albums such as "Between Da Protests" (2020) and "I M A M C R U 1 2" (2022), and remains an active voice in the cultural and educational space through lectures, performances, and advocacy for hip-hop as a tool for social change.
