Marcel Spears
Actor Marcel Spears began his career treading the boards before landing the part of T.K. Carter in the political sitcom "The Mayor" (ABC, 2017-). Born in New Orleans, Spears first started performing in school and church and went on to study theater at Prairie View A&M University and acting at Columbia University. Spears initially focused on the stage, appearing in various New York Shakespeare productions including leading roles in "Othello" and "Romeo and Juliet." He later appeared in the world premiere of Rachel Bonds' "At the Old Place" in San Diego, Ruben Santiago-Hudson's production of "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" in New Jersey and Alice Childress' play, "Trouble in Mind," at Minneapolis' Guthrie Theatres, and also starred alongside Justin Long and Donald Faison in "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" at the Old Globe Theatre. Spears made the move from the stage to the screen in 2017 when he was cast as lead Brandon Michael Hall's flamboyant best friend T.K. Carter in "The Mayor" (ABC, 2017-) a comedy about an aspiring rapper who decides to promote his mixtape by running for mayor of his California hometown.
