Noah Hawley was born in 1976 in New York City. Though born into a family of writers-his mother was a non-fiction author, and his grandmother a playwright-Hawley didn't immediately shoot for a career with the pen. He studied political science at Sarah Lawrence University, worked at the Legal Aid Society in New York City after graduating in 1989, and found jobs as a paralegal and a computer programmer upon moving to San Francisco. Hawley did turn to writing down the line, making his debut as a novelist with A Conspiracy of Tall Men (1998). After publishing his second book, Other People's Weddings, (2001), Hawley pursued a career in writing for the screen, beginning with the television show "Bones" (Fox 2005-17) and the romantic comedy film "Lies & Alibis" (2006). After writing for "Bones" for two seasons, Hawley became a producer on the procedural program, and went on to create the short-lived series "The Unusuals" (ABC 2009) and "My Generation" (ABC 2010). Hawley found much greater success launching his next series, "Fargo" (FX 2014-), a black comedy television adaptation of the Coen Brothers' beloved film of the same name. Hawley earned critical and popular acclaim for his work as a writer, producer, and director of "Fargo," even winning an Emmy for Outstanding Miniseries for the first season of the anthology series.
