Patrick Rothfuss was a fantasy writer known for his critically acclaimed best-selling trilogy The Kingkiller Chronicle. Born on June 6, 1973 in Madison, WI, Rothfuss received a B.S. in English from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, in 1999, before getting his masters at Washington State University. While teaching at his alma matter, Stevens Point, Rothfuss won the 2002 Writers of the Future Second Quarter competition for his short story "The Road to Levinshir," which would eventually be expanded into his second novel, The Wise Man's Fear. In 2007, the first entry of the Kingkiller Chronicle, The Name of the Wind, was published by DAW Books. The novel was an instant hit in the fantasy world, earning Rothfuss the prestigious Quill Award. Four years later, in 2011, The Wise Man's Fear was released, and debuted on the New York Times Hardback Fiction Best Seller List at Number 1. Rothfuss's star rose even further when it was announced in late 2016 that Lionsgate had optioned The Kingkiller Chronicle to be turned into a series of films and a television show, to be written by "Transformers 5" screenwriter Lindsey Beer, and produced by the Tony Award-winning Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.
