Queenie Smith
Queenie Smith was an accomplished actress who appeared in a variety of films throughout her Hollywood career. Smith kickstarted her acting career in various films such as the dramatic comedy "Mississippi" (1935) with Bing Crosby, "Show Boat" (1936) with Irene Dunne and the Vera Zorina adaptation "On Your Toes" (1939). She also appeared in the Joan Fontaine drama "From This Day Forward" (1946), the crime flick "The Killers" (1946) with Burt Lancaster and "Nocturne" (1946) with George Raft. She kept working in film throughout the forties and the fifties, starring in "Sleep, My Love" (1948), "The Snake Pit" (1949) and "The Great Rupert" (1950). She also appeared in the Eleanor Parker drama "Caged" (1950). In the latter part of her career, she continued to act in the Burt Reynolds crime feature "Hustle" (1975) and the comedy "Foul Play" (1978) with Goldie Hawn. She also was featured in the TV movie "The Girls of Huntington House" (ABC, 1972-73). Smith last acted in the comedy "The End" (1978) with Burt Reynolds. Smith passed away in August 1978 at the age of 80.
