Red Nichols was an actor who had a successful Hollywood career. In 1986, he was inducted into the Big Band and Jazz Hall of Fame. In 1926, he began playing in various lineups under the name Red Nichols and His Five Pennies. In 1959, he was portrayed by Danny Kaye in the film "The Five Pennies." Nichols was also credited in Nichols began his career with a role in the Sal Mineo biopic "The Gene Krupa Story" (1960). Nichols's music was most recently featured in the Sean Penn dramedy "Sweet and Lowdown" (1999). Nichols passed away in June 1965 at the age of 60.
