Sammy McKim found success as an actor early on, when he was just 13 years old. McKim's career beginnings included film roles in "Hit the Saddle" (1937) with Robert Livingston, "The Painted Stallion" (1937) with Ray Corrigan and the western "The Trigger Trio" (1937) with Ray Corrigan. McKim then began to rack up a number of film credits, including roles in the John Wayne western "Red River Range" (1938), "The Great Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok" (1938) and the Lee Powell western "The Lone Ranger" (1938). He also appeared in the musical "The Old Barn Dance" (1938) with Gene Autry, the western "The New Frontier" (1939) with John Wayne and "The Night Riders" (1939). Later in his career, McKim acted in the drama "Little Men" (1940) with Kay Francis.
