Stefanie Sherk was a Canadian model and actress, and the wife of Oscar-nominated Mexican actor Demian Bichir, who appeared in films like "Loco Love" (2017), "Star Power" (2018), and "Grudge" (2020), the latter of which she appeared in posthumously. Born and raised in Ontario, Sherk initially wanted to become a professional psychologist. After earning her Bachelor's degree in History from the University of Western Ontario, she briefly attended Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara in pursuit of her master's degree in psychology. However, Sherk had long dreamt of becoming a professional actress, so she set her focus on that instead. She earned her formal training from the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York City, and upon graduating embarked on a career as an actress. She began her career in the early 2000s with small roles in films like "Easy" (2003) and "Crash Landing" (2005), and soon began writing and directing her own short films like "Big Date" (2011). Sherk did land a small part as a stage manager in 2010's "Valentine's Day," as well as guest spots on "CSI: Cyber" (CBS, 2015-16) and "Telenovela" (NBC, 2015-16). In 2011 Sherk married the Mexican actor Demian Bichir. Bichir was nominated for an Oscar in 2012 for his role in "A Better Life" (2011). Three years later he would become a recognizable face to American audiences for his role in the Quentin Tarantino western "The Hateful Eight" (2015). As for Sherk, she continued acting well into the 2010s, with appearances in the films "Loco Love" and "Star Power." Sherk appeared opposite her husband as a therapist in the 2020 horror reboot "Grudge." Unfortunately, Sherk would never live to see herself in the film. She died in Los Angeles on April 20, 2019. The cause of death was later ruled to be a suicide by drowning. Sherk was 37.
