Susan Gibney
Though born in California, actress Susan Gibney moved to Webster, New York, as a child. After studying theater at Buffalo State, she earned her MFA at the Yale School of Drama. Gibney paid her dues with a string of off-Broadway performances before returning to the West Coast to pursue work in film and television. After snagging one-offs on a number of TV dramas, she landed a recurring role on the popular sci-fi series "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Shortly thereafter she made her film debut in the daffy family comedy "And You Thought Your Parents Were Weird," which centered on brothers whose robot is haunted by the spirit of their deceased father. She continued to balance supporting roles on film and television, and by 1995 she'd scored an audition for the lead role of Captain Kathyrn Janeway in the "Star Trek" spin-off "Star Trek: Voyager." When producers decided she was too young for the role, they considered casting her as sexy cyborg Seven of Nine. While this part ultimately went to Jeri Ryan, Gibney returned to the "Star Trek" universe as recurring character Benteen on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." After this Gibney bounced around, joining the freshly minted cast of two programs that proved short-lived: the John Larroquette sitcom "Happy Family" and the horror fantasy series "The Fearing Mind." However, Gibney may be best remembered for her recurring role on the long-running crime drama "Crossing Jordan," on which she portrayed DA Renee Walcott in 19 episodes.
