shana p It will stay with you, the story is heartbreaking and the acting, particularly from Johnny , is intense. It's not a simple watch and forget it movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Intriguing, gripping and sad Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member A mi me gusto la película, me parece profunda y una gran debut de Johnny, en otros géneros. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member The brave features a great performance by Johnny Depp but the movie is a very slow moving slow burn especially on the first half. The whole plot is a bit exaggerated but it does have a good message of family loyalty and compassion. It is a moving film. It’s a very Indie moving film. Not sure why Johnny Depp never released the film it’s not horrible but it’s not great either. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 11/26/20 Full Review Audience Member Slow, ponderous and completely undeserving of it's 2+ hour runtime, The Brave, best remembered for being so poorly received by American critic that it never saw a theatrical release there, is a terrible blunder in the career of one of our most unique talents. I love Johnny Depp, and despite his recent penchant for making bad choices, both on and off the film set, I usually look forward to seeing him act. In this film, which he directed and co-wrote, there's very little he can do to enliven the proceedings. Ostensibly a think piece on mortality, it quickly becomes a Brown Bunnyesque collection of boring sequences that we're supposed to find profound, but just feel hollow and pretentious. It's about 30 minutes of story stretched over 4 times that length, and things becomes tedious long before the credits start to roll. Marlon Brando is, unsurprisingly, very memorable in his miniature roll, and it's a shame more of the film wasn't about him, as he has the potential to be a character of significant interest. It's no surprise it was rejected by critics and audiences at large, and considering that Depp hasn't directed a film since, I think it's failure probably hit him hardest of all. That being said, it's a relatively minor misstep in an otherwise remarkable career, and as such we can look back on The Brave as simply a momentary lapse of reason, and not the death knell of an entire life's work.
