Steve D Too many better made more truthful versions. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review isaac m I know that this 1930 movie about our 16th President of the United States has some inaccuracies that will make my history teachers in fury, but I have to give credit for doing their best at making a story of Abe Lincoln. I love the performances, the usage of sound, the direction, and the production design. I do feel that the movie had done liberties to make President Lincoln more favorable. Overall, Abraham Lincoln is an ok film that was given to us as a public domain gift. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty well done for 1930. Covered a lot . Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/14/20 Full Review Audience Member This movie forgot one of Abe's most important events, the Civil War. But still, this movie is very easy to understand even though it is from 1930. The death scene somehow startled me and I think D.W. Griffith did a good job. I rate 5 stars minus a half. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Lincoln was a good biography I love Learning about him and history class I Learned about him. He was a good president! Variety Staff Variety Abraham Lincoln is a startlingly superlative accomplishment. Aug 19, 2013 Full Review Jonathan Rosenbaum Chicago Reader Working with the sort of mythic material later associated with John Ford, Griffith gives us a primordial Lincoln, perfectly incarnated by Walter Huston, and a dreamlike sense of destiny that his camera fully articulates. Aug 19, 2013 Full Review Mordaunt Hall New York Times It is quite a worthy pictorial offering with a genuinely fine and inspiring performance by Walter Huston in the role of the martyred President. Rated: 3/5 Aug 19, 2013 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Detractors and fans of the divisive Griffith should at least agree, however, on the wearying dullness of this arid affair. Nov 18, 2020 Full Review Harry Alan Potamkin The New Masses The fact that it draws tears is rather against it than for it. The pathos of a tremendous social occurrence should not be refined or lachrymose, but revealing. The social occurrence seldom gets a chance here. Mar 25, 2020 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row Feels like a relic, a sad, weak swan song from one of cinema's most legendary filmmakers.
