Alain Moreau (Gérard Depardieu) is the local lounge singer in a small French town and somewhat of a legend among his ardent female admirers. Though he sings to a packed house almost every night, Alain is all too aware that his career is coming to an end. One night, he encounters the much younger Marion (Cécile de France), whom he pursues despite her apparent disinterest. As Alain fabricates reasons to keep seeing Marion, his ex-wife and manager (Christine Citti) wonders about her own future.

Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard Giannoli's film is as bitter as it is sweet and paints the scene with masterly precision, even if the usual comforting ending is at odds with what has gone before. Rated: 4/5 Sep 29, 2007 Full Review Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) Depardieu, utterly relaxed, is a decent crooner, and what the film lacks in strong narrative it compensates for in charm and De France's odd loveliness. Rated: 3/5 Sep 29, 2007 Full Review Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) Like watching an elephant mate with a gazelle. Sep 28, 2007 Full Review Peter Calder New Zealand Herald The prodigally productive Depardieu turns in a perfectly inflected performance, full of grace and skill and with none of the curdled cynicism a lesser actor would have brought to the role. Rated: 4/5 Jan 8, 2008 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall Gentle humour and earthy emotion give this film a wonderfully relaxed tone that astutely captures our imagination. Audience Member WHo knew Gerard DePardieu could sing! And well!!Next to Cecile De France, its a story of beauty & the beast, but after awhile it does start to wear on you, the songs, the indecision, and like the movie, it just doesn't get anywhere interesting. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent french film about an ageing singer who falls for a younger lady and spend the night with her.... following this brief encounter a series of event will bring them back together and change their mutual life forever. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member J'aime pas tellement C. De France et encore moins Depardieu. Donc j'ai acheté le DVD. J'ai bien aimé, bonne atmosphere, et role a contre emploi pour Depardieu. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member an enjoyable Depardieu-centred flick that drew out many chuckles. if you're corny, go for it! :) Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A bittersweet love story for middle aged men. Gerard good as always although his singing's not too convincing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member A delight. Cecile de France is magnificent as always.
