Polanski's is still the best. Nice to hear Shakespeare without a stuffy RP accent, but the performances are pretty mediocre across the board. That said, it does have probably the best ever visual treatment of Macbeth's "dagger of the mind."

The film uses Shakespearean language but it doesn't seem to quite work for this modern adaptation where other have succeeded. The film is too much focused on shooting and awkward monologues and it just doesn't cut it.

It was ok until about the last 45 minutes then it lost me. I know the play and I get that they were drug lords but I think the whole cop thing could have gone without.

The play's power has been diluted by questionable editing, an overload of blandly stylized violence and the conspicuous suspicion that this whole thing is the predictable result of catering to base commercial instincts.
