      Critics Consensus

Tasteful, poetic, yet sexually forthright, Lady Chatterley skillfully translates its source novel's high-art erotica onto the big screen.

Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Although the film is capable of sustaining our interest throughout, the viewer may find it lacking in some of the transcendence Lady Chatterley's lust is supposed to inspire. Rated: 3/5 Sep 21, 2007 Full Review John Monaghan Detroit Free Press Excellent performances by everyone involved help you overlook the incongruity of French-speaking actors in traditional English settings. Rated: 3/4 Sep 14, 2007 Full Review Susan Walker Toronto Star Director Pascale Ferran is true to the spirit of the book and gives us an eyeful, of both the glorious countryside and the lovers' physiques. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 31, 2007 Full Review Felicia Feaster Creative Loafing Pascale Ferran's Lady Chatterley is as exquisite and memorable for the way it burrows beneath its characters' skin, into the discrete and lonely worlds they occupy. Feb 4, 2020 Full Review Mattie Lucas From the Front Row Ferran's softly contemplative tone is both unassuming and enthralling, making it an unexpectedly fascinating and breathtaking film. Rated: 3.5/4 Jul 6, 2019 Full Review Jon Frosch The Stranger (Seattle, WA) I was lulled by the gentleness of the film, and struck by how closely Ferran observes her characters, as well as how modern and subtle her insights are. Audience Member That movie has scared my mind Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review dave j Co-written and directed by Pierre Trividic adapting DH Lawrence's novel the setting appears to be after WWI with husband Sir Clifford Chatterley (Hippolyte Girardot) who has no use of his legs still on a wheelchair who may be impotent, his wife Constance (Marina Hands) makes every attempt to aid him while they are sleeping in separate bedrooms. It was not until she becomes fatigued and is recommended by a family physician that she should do some walking around the countryside she would eventually meet the headsmen's gamekeeper, Parkin (Jean-Louis Coulloc'h) and it was during at this point this point she becomes infatuated. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review andrey k An archetypical French story of passion and love nicely realized and beautiful to the eye. I liked how the film was constructed with those brief intertitles; it's an aesthetical movie, even the raw sexual scenes were not offensive and harmonized quite well with the feelings of the main characters. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This is a superb move and beautifully filmed. It is worth your time and takes its place among the best expressions of this ground-breaking story. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/11/23 Full Review Audience Member A solid drama film with some good acting. Some of the more intimate scenes feel a bit uncomfortable to watch at first, with the more realistic touch, lack of background music etc. Almost feels like peeping into other people personal lives, but in the end it serves the film as a whole. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Intelligent adaptation of the once-notorious story. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
