      Critics Consensus

This vengeance film leans heavily on attack-and-avenge scenarios but performances by Brian Cox's and Tom Sizemore's take the stink out of any weaker scripting.

Jack O The script would be sleep inducing if it weren't for watching really good actors give it their best shot to keep a straight face while mouthing what is so startlingly bad. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/27/24 Full Review FD D Really enjoyed it. Had some really nice parts . Stands for justice Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/29/23 Full Review Edward R Entertaining but a serious pile of shite. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/15/23 Full Review Elaine K Not usually my cup of tea, but anything with the superb Brian Cox in it is always worth a watch. He really lifted this film, convincing the viewer that his grieving and pain was real, I defy anyone not to be moved by his performance. Highly recommended. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/11/23 Full Review Gareth J Meadering, unconvincing and tedious pile of dawg$h1t Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/01/23 Full Review Ian G I had to wonder - "Why?" Why make it, I mean. It wasn't entertaining. It was - "preachy" but its lesson could have been delivered more succinctly, more directly. It condemns American small town "justice" which is plainly not delivered after a strutting psychopath shoots our elderly hero's dog for no reason at all, and -what's arguably worse, threatens the central character by poking a shotgun at his head, certainly to the fear of his life. All glossed over, because the psycho's father is a locally influential man with some sort of questionable history. But the dog owner can't and won't let it go. Greatly to his own loss, and to the psycho's family as the father and two sons are all shot dead in the semi-finale. Such lessons are akin to being enthusiastically worked over with a cricket bat, and as I'd got the message earlier on (I can be quite bright that way at times) the whole thing for repetitious and "draggy", if that's a word at all? Too preachy, too long by half, and with a simple message that could only have been intended for the psychopath who - being psychotic - might need a bit more than preaching to discourage random dog shootings. And shop arson. Nearly forgot the shop arson. Much like the police in this ridiculous small town. Overall a rather nasty little film bringing no enjoyment to this watcher at all. Two stars because Cox is in it. Because he's from Dundee, about 15 miles from my home - and we need to look after our Scots film actors. (There's precious few of them these days) Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
