      Critics Consensus

Though it sports a slick look and feel, Surrogates fails to capitalize on a promising premise, relying instead on mindless action and a poor script.

Connor A This film is OK. Bruce Willis and the rest of the cast give good performances and the action and plot is decent. There's a few good twists but overall the film feels like a basic action flick Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review Mark B I like the premise, it is not ground breaking and has the feel of The Matrix, a bit of Terminator, hidden in a police procedural. It worked for me. Every movie is not going to be totally original in fact very few are including the above. Movie was definitely completed on a budget not too worried about the use of future technology ( cars, cell phones, computers etc….) but I give it credit there it holds up in 2024. It is good to see Bruce Willis in his prime. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/13/24 Full Review MishaG4mer Very interesting concept of a society run by the so called 'surrogates'. Although there's room for improvement, it still makes for a nice movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/22/24 Full Review Anderson O Creative futuristic premise, almost reflective of the times we live in now in gaming and cell phones. Surrogates is a smaller scale world of avitars in the real life society that challenge real or fake emotions. 15 years later, it's viable to a different and more relevant meaning to General Population today. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/24 Full Review John A Watched it about whenit came out. Watched it again. Think some of the negative critics must have eaten something that dusagreed with them; or they are just trying to stir up sci fi fans. Maybe not all possibilities are explored, so what, there's enough in it, including action, to make it an enjoyable, thought provoking watch. Enjoy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/24 Full Review Jan C This movie is about Facebook and other social media. And the message is clear: everybody needs to get unplugged to save our humanity. I love it. Keith Uhlich Time Out An A-list blockbuster that would fit, damn proudly, on the lower half of a double bill. Rated: 4/5 Nov 16, 2011 Full Review Nick Schager Lessons of Darkness Has all the get-up-and-go of a dead battery. Rated: C Oct 14, 2009 Full Review Amy Nicholson I.E. Weekly Every sci-fi and action flick clich is crammed in here and Mostow couldn't give a damn if you've seen them all before. He might not do them better, but he'll do them well enough. Rated: C Sep 28, 2009 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Plenty of neat technologies and visuals keep us intently watching. Once the action has subsided, however, and we begin to think about this world, it doesn’t add up. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 30, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins It's clear that the writers aren't trying to hide the silliness of the concepts their world is based upon.
