Critics Consensus

Though it sports a slick look and feel, Surrogates fails to capitalize on a promising premise, relying instead on mindless action and a poor script.

Ryan C Good concept for a movie at the time. I actually enjoyed it at times, but I'm a sci-fi nerd. The problem is the plot just doesn't hold up. Maybe the movie should have taken place further in the future instead of literally looking like 2010 lol I mean, come on.. Sony had a hard enough time keeping up with the demand for the PS5 when it launched lol. They literally didn't have enough raw Earth materials to manufacture what they needed. Remember? But yet, the movie would like you to believe that over a billion people on the planet can have their own android (surrogate)? We only get a glimpse at the manufacturing process of surrogates, but they showed the company (VSI) was pumping them out like they were simply making bottled soda or bags of chips lol. Think about raw materials needed to make just ONE of these things, from the metal skeleton to the optics and processing units to the circuitry and wiring. Plus the surrogate chair and whole neural uplink thing to connect to it. And speaking of that connection between operator and surrogate, they never EVER explained that lol. We barely see people using cell phones in the movie, so what type of network is supporting the seamless wireless connection to the surrogate? 🤦‍♂️ So yea.. you see how the plot sucks? Lol. Cool concept, but totally unrealistic. Oh yea, they also NEVER mentioned what these things cost. A frickin' PSVR2 is steep enough at $600, but a billion people all over the world can afford their own android to live their perfect life? Yea, ok.. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/25 Full Review M D Very underated movie. A GREAT sci-fi. I dont know why the rating is so low, its an excellent movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/08/25 Full Review Lanfranco C Life, rela life, is a wonderful thing Rated 2 out of 5 stars 10/15/24 Full Review Руслан Г легкий фільм, візуальні ефекти гарні. Іншого і не очікував. Подивився до кінця з задаволенням. Дружина головного героя тримала у екрану до кінця фільму))))) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/14/24 Full Review Karl H If I had to rank this movie, I'd say it was better than The Phantom Menace but not as good as The Princess Bride. It actually made me laugh a few times, which most movies do not. The exposition scenes take place during the opening credits; there are no boring plot explanations during the story itself. The one disbelief I really had to suspend was how people lying in couches operating robot surrogates never got fat. Other than that, this is a pretty straightforward cop story with robots thrown in. At one point in the movie, I did wonder for a second if I was watching I, Robot. Also, I watched this in DVD. The director's commentary track was actually informative. Even though that was the only extra feature on the DVD, I felt like my $3 thrift-store purchase was not a waste of money. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/23/24 Full Review Connor A This film is OK. Bruce Willis and the rest of the cast give good performances and the action and plot is decent. There's a few good twists but overall the film feels like a basic action flick Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review Read all reviews
