A Depression-era romance/comedy with an interesting premise, some singing and dancing, and an impressive finish. Predictable at times. Not the best Depression-era comedy, or romance, or movie. Not the best Bing Crosby, or songs, or dancing.
The finale act surprised me, which happens rarely. Stick around for it.

I honestly liked the supporting players here--especially the hilarious antics of Martha Raye and Andy Devine--a lot more than the frontman, Bing, here. I get it that he's so immensely talented that everything is effortless and he appears to be coasting. Maybe it's the way he had always put up the front of being nice, and such a great guy, yet was a nightmare to his own children, but he simply comes across as fake and phony, non-genuine. But for a 30's musical comedy coming out of Hollywood, it's pretty good, especially considering its budget.

Tuneful Bing Crosby musical is bolstered with two smash song hits: "The Moon Got In My Eyes" and "Smarty."

An okay movie with a good cast, mostly Crosby. It's funny and the story is interesting to begin with, but you realize how predictable it is.

A delightful black and white comedy/musical dominated by Bing, of course and righfully so.
5 unsuspecting people find themselves trying to double 5000 dollars in 30 days, or they will lose a million dollars!
Martha Raye, the fantastic female comedian of her day is great as a supporting role clown trying to get her share of the money. The 5 strangers pool thier talents to bring off a fantastic ending you absolutely must watch to the end.
I know this film is light, air headed fluff, but if you can withstand all the goofy scenes and period nonsense, please do so.
The end of this is a total suprise and heartwarming too. Just think, a movie with no one getting killed, maimed, raped, or stabbed. No explosions either.
Just pure entertainment and singing, glorious Bing Crosby no doubt setting up future blockbusters like Holiday Inn.
A very family and non-offensive film that could never happen in real life, but is fun to watch anyway.
