Jennie Punter Globe and Mail Cactus thrives on sparse dialogue and scant backstory, so the flood of information in the final act waters down what is otherwise a dark outback thriller. Rated: 2/4 Mar 12, 2010 Full Review Sura Wood The Hollywood Reporter Suspenseful misadventure gets off to a roaring start but doesn't deliver the goods. Oct 21, 2008 Full Review Jim Schembri The Age (Australia) The cinematography is terrific and one inspired scene involves the use of the Wiggles as an instrument of torture. Rated: 2.5/5 Jun 8, 2008 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...Cactus feels like a short that's been awkwardly expanded to feature length. Rated: 1.5/4 Feb 10, 2011 Full Review Liz Braun Jam! Movies Cactus is the sort of film that grabs your attention from the beginning and holds on tight almost throughout, but vanishes from your mind the minute it's over. Rated: 2.5/5 Mar 12, 2010 Full Review Amber Wilkinson Eye for Film A lean and moody road-trip thriller, which though a little uneven, is nevertheless a deft piece of filmmaking. Audience Member Really good movie. Loved it and David Lyons. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty good Aussie outback thriller. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Low budgeted, story driven kidnap movie from Australia. Has some interesting occurrences on the way through. Able to keep you interested. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Audience Member A lot of people talking about Australian cinematography are spending more time reading critics instead of watching movies! If I read the critics I would skip watching this film.... and I am glad I didn't. Interesting road movie by first time writer-director Jasmine Yuen-Carrucan. She was very good camera operator until this attempt as a director and now is showing us that is very capable woman doing both of those things very well. I like that this art work is not too commercial and I could describe it as esoteric. This film is NOT a masterpiece, but everything is done professionally without too much effort. I won't try to describe the plot, let me say that the journey of the two passengers is much more interesting than the destination. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought there would be more action!Just didn't get going!!! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Good Australian thriller mainly based on the concept of 'an eye for an eye,' though remains fairly ambiguous throughout, leaving most of the questions viewers are asking throughout the film unanswered. Very much an Australian film nonetheless, and that is where its worth truly lies. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews
