Now in the care of Dave Seville's nephew (Zachary Levi), chipmunks Alvin, Simon and Theodore take a break from pop-music stardom and return to school. Almost immediately, the tiny tunesmiths get the giant task of saving their school's music program by winning a battle-of-the-bands contest. Though the boys think winning it will be easy, romantic and musical sparks fly when they meet Brittany, Eleanor and Jeannette -- also known as The Chipettes.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

This Squeakquel may entertain the kiddies, but it's low on energy and heavily reliant on slapstick humor.

Kim Newman Empire Magazine Alvin must be the most unsympathetic lead in any kiddie franchise, and having him do squeaked-up De Niro impersonations doesn't help. Rated: 2/5 Jan 5, 2010 Full Review Derek Malcolm London Evening Standard They call this the "squeakquel" and that's about all you'll want to know about a film that remorselessly pulls all the levers of the first highly successful box-office attraction. Rated: 1/5 Jan 5, 2010 Full Review Karina Longworth Time Out Blending CGI and live action, this "squeakquel" to the witless 2007 kids' film proves just how dangerous such technology is when placed in the wrong hands. Kauê T Definitivamente chato, dependente de um humor besta que agrada quase ninguém, apenas a nostalgia te fará lembrar de algo bom vindo daqui. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review thiago s Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 07/23/25 Full Review Stephen C Funny in 1 hour and 29 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated PG for Mild Rude Humor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The original creator will be missed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/09/25 Full Review Kayleigh S This one is hilarious and I love the fact that the chipmunks were going to school. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/03/25 Full Review Pamela P Even though this picture was deemed to be a hit when I came out, it has not aged well since it's released. Back to Syrian Productions has a habit of introducing characters like Aunt Jackie and Toby but not bringing them back for subsequent sequels. The other problem I have with this film is that the Chipmunks are sent to a high school instead of an elementary school. After all they are supposed to be children. My favorite scenes are the one with Toby. Because when Anne Jackie has a problem Toby steps in to help take care of the Chipmunks. We learned that Toby is a shy awkward guy who likes a particular girl and the Chipmunks help him come out of his shell. The film is a mess on one hand because of Ian Hawke. He's the sleazy record producer that tried to harm the Chipmunks and later the Chipettes. He goes as far as to break into an empty apartment and assume living there. He even goes as far as the dress and drag at the end of the movie to play fake being the Chipettes. Some of the antics of Ian Hawke are questionable at best. If it weren't for the Toby scenes I wouldn't watch this film at all. Characters like Aunt Jackie and Toby get short changed while Dave has often abrasive at times the 5:00 shadow and is very abrasive at times Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/29/25 Full Review Massimo D Resta comunque un bel film semplice e divertente Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/24/25 Full Review Read all reviews
