Joe Leydon Variety This earnest indie production comes across like formulaic fiction while taking cues (and recycling cliches) from the 'inspirational sports drama' playbook. Sep 29, 2008 Full Review Noel Murray AV Club It's definitely possible to make artful message movies -- just consider the filmography of ex-Mormon iconoclast Richard Dutcher -- but Forever Strong is generic faith-and-redemption fare, devoid of nuance. Rated: C- Sep 26, 2008 Full Review V.A. Musetto New York Post As directed by Ryan Little and written by David Pliler, Forever Strong dredges up every sports movie clich and stereotype ever invented. (Cue the slow-mo in the rain.) Rated: 0.5/4 Sep 26, 2008 Full Review Charles Cassady Common Sense Media Uplifting jock drama is predictable but OK for older tweens. Rated: 3/5 Jun 17, 2009 Full Review Brian Orndorf DVDTalk.com Created under the vague guise of "inspirational cinema," Strong is a sloppy, soggy pile of clichs, unable to sort itself out, grow a pair of cinematic cojones, and actually try to subvert some of its rancid formula. Tuza C This movie was great. How an egotistical guy becomes a better person overnight and teaches people the possibility of improvement, Rick's character was brilliant. My favorite part was when Rick slowly becomes friends with his new teammates. I would recomment for everyone, everyone can learn from it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/03/25 Full Review Sean T This is a must-watch film for all teenagers, educators, parents or just anyone interested in sport. The key to enjoying and understanding the film is not to focus too much on the rugby, as that is just the vehicle to show how an egotistical hooligan can change his life around through the right people. Ryan Little has done a fantastic job of turning many stories into one, captivating the audience through the love and brotherhood on the team. It must be said that all the main actors, Sean Faris (Never Back Down), Sean Astin (LOTR), Neal McDonagh (loads of films) and Penn Badgely (You) play their roles out perfectly. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/22/25 Full Review Allan S When the critics and audience have a big spread between the two..you know it’s a good movie. This movie drives home the importance of having a solid foundation and growing into a man you can be proud of when you look into the mirror. Every critic misses the mark like usual, this movie can speak to any high school / college age man and help open your eyes to the way you should like your life. It is an amazing story, and ignore any review that says otherwise Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/03/25 Full Review Ed R An inspiring story based of true events of a legendary Rugby coach trying to grow young men into better men while also playing the game. It lacked Hollywood glow though. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/29/23 Full Review steve d It works ok for what it is, but you have seen it all done better. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
