Blobbo X Typical '70's low-budget made-for-tv stuff. Good enough to make you itchy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A hotel complex where a new building is being constructed is infested with killer ants. I love the TV movies that featured a special guest star who was slumming it as work had dried up. Ants stars Myrna Loy as well as Suzanne Somers (!) and Lynda Day George (yes, the actress from Pieces!) so you know you're in for a special time. I actually remember watching this on UK TV in 1980 when I was the tender age of 5. I love the fact that whenever the ants appear on screen we get discordant violins on the soundtrack. This is surprisingly bright and breezy in tone until the ants become more prevalent within the storyline and then it becomes a lot more apocalyptic in tone (which is always welcome for cult film fans). The whole production is a triumph in camp however dark it tries to become. Ants aka It Happened at Lakewood Manor holds up very well though. The TV movie was also issued on DVD in 2014. This might not be some kind of classic uncovered from the vaults but it's nice to see it has a life after being shown on TV all those decades before. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member 1977 TVM: A horde of ants terrorize and take over a luxury hotel and an adjoining construction site, endangering the lives of the hotel personnel, the guests, and the construction crew. A health inspectors come in to close down the site, but the ants have already attacked, trapping some of the hotel staff in the building. Another one of those creature disaster type movies that were popular in the 1970's. However, this one is rather entertaining, with some dramatic and intense moments, especially towards the end. Recommendable. Stars: Robert Foxworth, Lynda Day George, Myrna Loy, Gerald Gordon, Suzanne Somers, Bernie Casey, Brian Dennehy, and Barry Van Dyke. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member se supone que son hormigas asesinas.. las pobres hormigas... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member angst ants in my pants Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Another nature runs amok film, Ants is the definition of a so bad it's good movie, one that is entertaining if you enjoy low budget, schlock films that have a ridiculous plot. After Jaws, studios seemed all too interested in creating films of this genre, where seemingly innocent things in nature start terrorizing people. This is among one of the cheesier entries in this genre, but if you enjoy tongue in cheek horror, you might like this one. The performances are over the top, and the sheer notion of vengeful ants is so ridiculous that this has to be seen to be believed. Although far from the best nature goes wild genre, ants is a pretty good made for TV film that should appeal to genre fans. Those looking for a great picture won't get it here, but for viewers that enjoy cheesy horror, Ants is the perfect film to watch. I enjoy a good nature goes awry film, and Ants is pure mindless fun from start to finish. A film that is meant to be enjoyed as a popcorn tongue in cheek horror film, and in that area, the film succeeds. However, this is not a film for everyone, and it's one that should be seen only by those who enjoy these types of horror films. For me, this is an obscured gem of the genre, one that is far better than you might think, but it's not perfect by any means as well. If you're a fan of these movies, you'll surely enjoy this 1970's era picture that features an enjoyable, but nonetheless very ridiculous plot. However, that's what makes this film so much fun to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Read all reviews
