Audience Member I'm not a drama fan, but this is an adventure, thrill, suspense and bloody in the kitchen sink... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member Despite consistently bad reviews by critics I thought this movie, while not the greatest survival movie I've ever seen by far, was certainly worth watching. The couple make some stupid decisions to be sure but they are not exactly on familiar ground (pun somewhat intended). The scenes involving wolves were intense enough to keep me watching, and I was pleased not to be put off by some unrealistic feel-good ending so many movies like this force on you Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member If you overlook some of the plot's shortcomings in terms of plausibility, the movie is a thriller as billed. Strahovski was the better part of the new married couple in performance. Will Patton gave the necessary color to his character without going too far towards the realm of tall tales, leaving the impression that maybe most or some of his claims were possible. The lesson was made more than clear: "Poor choices can cost you dearly". Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review ronald h _The Canyon_ is a dumb movie about dumb people making dumb decisions, but being a Will Patton fan, I couldn't resist giving it a watch. Patton is great as always, hamming it up as a lone, grizzled Grand Canyon tour guide. Unfortunately, we lose him about a third of the way through, leaving us with two newlywed yuppies who look like magazine models. Despite my disdain for the couple, after watching them go through all of their survival agony, I was at least hoping for a positive outcome, but that isn't the case. If you saw the awful _Open Water_, you now know what to expect, except the lunch-seeking predators are wolves instead of sharks. The wolf attack scenes are ridiculous, because unless they're rabid or injured, wolves almost never go after humans--especially in a popular tourist destination like the Grand Canyon, where they're used to people. There are some nerve-wracking moments, including one in which the two are trying to scale a humongous rock wall and another really gory one that I won't dignify by describing. There's also a lot of bad dialogue---and the movie was actually filmed at a canyon in Utah. I feel ripped off. Overall, it's suspenseful enough to keep you watching if you're not in a particularly critical mood. And you at least get to see Will Patton. But the ending is so negative and cynical, you'll be angry. I was. I don't need this. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review antonis k Really great film that is elevated by great perfomances by the cast (especially Strahovski) that makes for a really good survival film. My only problem was the ending mostly. (8.5/10) Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the worst ways to waste time is watching this movie. Not even one scene is believable and the ending is so ridiculous that you're just glad its actually over... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times If well-meaning people didn't make stupid choices -- and if cellphones worked everywhere -- way fewer vacation-from-hell thrillers would probably be made. Rated: 2/5 Dec 7, 2009 Full Review Cary Darling Dallas Morning News The Canyon is undermined by the expectation of a big payoff that never comes. Rated: 2/5 Oct 30, 2009 Full Review Mick LaSalle San Francisco Chronicle The best thing about this would-be nature thriller is Will Patton's zesty performance as a cackling, crazed muleskinner, a wily old hand who exits far too soon. There's nothing much to replace him, so we're in for a long 102 minutes. Rated: 1/4 Oct 30, 2009 Full Review Christopher Monfette IGN Movies In the absence of common sense or basic survival skills, when the end comes, for both the characters and the audience, it's a very welcome rescue indeed. Nov 28, 2018 Full Review Chris Hewitt St. Paul Pioneer Press Take Open Water, subtract the Caribbean, substitute the Grand Canyon, and you have The Canyon. Rated: 1.5/4 Nov 5, 2009 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru A taut, unpredictable and intense thriller. You'll never look at the Grand Canyon the same way again.
