Critics Consensus

With Richard Pryor's trademark ribald humor tamped down, Brewster's Millions feels like a missed opportunity to update a classic story.

Brad CKA L https://youtu.be/saSE13d1qC4?si=xwCNZijMI9sHYu0W Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/27/24 Full Review Jone W Richard Pryor delivers a standout performance, infusing the film with his signature charisma and wit. The story's pacing keeps audiences engaged, balancing comedy and social commentary. While the narrative occasionally dips into slapstick territory, the film remains an entertaining exploration of wealth, excess, and the unexpected challenges of having too much money. A solid, feel-good comedy that has aged well over the years. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Audience Member I liked it, but honestly I’m surprised he didn’t go through it faster. Every single scene he was saying some huge numbers, not even halfway in and I feel like he should have been broke lol. Either way though it’s a comedy and shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Although I didn’t laugh that much, so maybe just a satirical drama. 3.5/5 stars. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/16/24 Full Review Will S This movie is brilliant and plays it straight the entire time. I'm not sure why all the bad votes, but this is so smart and the PG rating barely hurts it. Rewatching it in 2024 arises the same issues the movie poked fun at in the first place. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/01/24 Full Review Mutazz D This movie is a most own and must view. This isn't an all comedy laugh fest like one would come to expect from John Candy and Richard Pryor, although it does have it's share of laughs, I would consider it a good retelling of a great morality tale that stands the test of time. Miss you guys!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Funny and original, including kissing scenes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL.
