Robert H @Rwhobbs198 1 day ago Brewster's Millions wasn't bad, and I mainly watched it because I'm on a bit of a John Candy kick. The premise is actually pretty clever: spend $30 million within a strict set of rules in order to inherit $300 million. That should create endless comedy, but I don't think the movie takes full advantage of it. Too much of the humor comes down to Brewster simply overpaying people or throwing money at increasingly ridiculous situations, when the challenge of trying to lose that much money could have been far more inventive and funny. There are still some enjoyable moments, and watching him accidentally make money while desperately trying to get rid of it is probably the best running joke. John Candy is enjoyable as always, and the movie also works as a great little snapshot of 1980s New York City. The financial district scenes, busy streets, and glimpses of the World Trade Center give it an extra layer of nostalgia today. A decent one-time watch with a better premise than execution. Every single scene he was saying some huge numbers, not even halfway in and I feel like he should have been broke lol. Either way though it’s a comedy and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
