Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times The film seems oddly unfocused, and the first hour is given over to barren stretches of flat, everyday dialog. Aldo G The budget was too measly to provide appropriate special effects (there are not images of the space capsule in space). The lack of tension in a movie about an astronaut in danger crash lands this one. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/07/24 Full Review Russ One of two films [of which I know] pairing Robert Duval and James Caan prior to The Godfather, but it's strictly Movie of the Week quality. Also features Ted Knight [Mary Tyler Moore Show, Caddyshack] as a NASA PR flak. Caan isn't at all convincing as an astronaut. This runs 102 minutes but I jumped past the hokey melodrama in the first hour to see how it ended. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/05/23 Full Review j f Worst ending ever….. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Like going to the dentist, very poor acting as astronauts, never heard one transmission that showed panic, wearing the space suit the entire flight not realistic, no buzz in this film what so ever. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member While not a great film, this is a near miss - especially for those that appreciate what the arms race really meant to the patriotic public. This film's ending might have been better if it had ended a few minutes later into the story. Open ended storylines are always assumed to be a positive outcome for the hero - but was it really? Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member A slightly better than average Cold War Space Race movie. All of the actors give credible performances and the technology used was mostly things that NASA may have been able to do at the time. After some historical research, it seems that NASA did do some early research into a mission profile similar to the one that the movie uses in the story, although with 2 men, not one.
