Dreamer (Tim Matheson) is the bowling king in his small town, but he yearns for the big time. Although outwardly self-confident, he still depends on the knowledge and support of his grizzled coach, a former pro bowler named Harry (Jack Warden). Dreamer also leans on his faithful girlfriend, Karen (Susan Blakely). Eventually, everything gels for Dreamer, and he gets his shot at glory when he finds himself in a face-to-face showdown with a national champion.
