sean s As much as I like Paul Le Mat, this movie is very weak in most aspects. Even the lead singer of punk band Fear guest stars in this funky movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Grave Secrets (Secret Screams): 4 out of 10: Decent story about a haunting at a bed and breakfast is let down by a poor script, unfocused direction, and some poor acting choices. The Good: Of all the actors in this I am willing to give Renée Soutendijk a pass. Considering what she is often given to work with she certainly seems to be trying to put together a character. She also has a semblance of charisma and screen presence. Though they look funny today the special effects really are not all that bad. Well okay, they are sometimes that bad but they are fun and cartoonish and good lord at least something is happening onscreen. The Bad: Paul Lemat has the charisma of wet toast in this and David Warner has what amounts to an extended cameo. Outside of a couple of townies and a perky female assistant, there are really no other characters in this film. The majority of the film is Renée Soutendijk telling Paul Lemat to leave her house and Paul basically ignoring her wishes in a way that could charitably be described as creepy in this me-too era. This is not as entertaining as one would think. The story goes down some surprisingly dark paths. Too bad the script doesn't. The story is some horrifying content that is beyond dark but the script and the direction treat this as an extended Scooby Doo episode. Imagine Requiem for a Dream done by the American Pie people. The Ugly: There are some interesting ideas in this film that are simply taken out back and shot. The film starts with our ghost hunting professor Lemat being visited by possible femme fatale Soutendijk. Lemat is in his office like Sam Spade with shadows and rain and the like. It is actually a really good start. Their next meeting one would expect in a smokey bar or on a foggy dock. Nope, a mall food court. It is as if the movie had a good idea and just forgot about it. Speaking of forgotten about the local townie is clearly being set up as a jealous lover, former rapist, jealous of city folk threat to our leads (He throws an axe at them which they blame on the ghost.) He seems destined to have some sort of part to play in the stories resolution. Nope seems like the movie just forgot about him two-thirds of the way through. In Conclusion: You know the AP style guide says that the modern preferred spelling of axe is ax. Apparently, axe is both old-fashioned and British. Am I so old that the language has changed on me? When did this happen? As for the movie? Meh. Takes forever to finally get going and when it does the script pulls the stories punches. Skippable. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member please put this movie for me, because I've never seen it. .would love to. thank you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Grave Secrets (Donald P. Borchers, 1989) The IMDB trivia section for Grave Secrets, also known as Secret Screams (under which title it is as I write this available on Netflix Instant Streaming), is the directorial debut of producer Donald P. Borchers. It neglects to mention that Borchers would direct just two more films in the following two decades. Once you've seen Grave Secrets, you will find it all too easy to understand why. Plot: Iris Norwood (Abwärts' Renée Soutendijk) has inherited an old bed and breakfast that is rumored to be haunted. She calls in local psychic David Shaw (The Long Shot's Paul Le Mat) to investigate. At first, Shaw is skeptical that anything is really going on in the house, but as the sexual tension grows between the two, Shaw slowly becomes convinced that something is, indeed, going on. (I didn't mean to imply those two things are connected. The film may have meant to imply this, but if so, it failed.) The best way to describe this is a basement-budget ripoff of the underrated 1980 fright classic The Entity, but if The Entity had been a made-for-TV movie that did nothing in the way of boundary-pushing and relied on ridiculously bad special effects instead of atmosphere to generate what few jumps it has. At least it stopped before revealing the oh-so-prediectable secret relationship between the bad guy and...DAMMIT. Really, as with pretty much every movie containing Paul Le Mat, you would do very well to stay away from this one. * Not hugely related to the film, but should be mentioned because of a title mix-up at Amazon: please note this is not the 1992 TV movie starring Patty Duke. It was released three years earlier and is a theatrical release. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Audience Member Quite possibly the worst supernatural thriller ever made. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member A professor spends time at a vacant bed and breakfast to determine why a ghost is haunting it. Breakfast appears to be the ghost's least favourite meal judging by it's treatment of eggs. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Brian Orndorf Blu-ray.com Deeper consideration of what's really going on with the characters isn't welcomed, as Borchers is primarily looking to summon a case of the creeps, not a fetal-position-inducing overview of human suffering. Rated: B- May 29, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews
