Rated: 2.5/4 Apr 30, 2023 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com If there's anything worth noting of this 1939 version directed by Gregory Ratoff, it's the luminous energy of Bergman, who is impossibly fresh-faced and vibrant. Rated: 3/5 Aug 26, 2020 Full Review Tim Brayton Antagony & Ecstasy It is first and best an Ingrid Bergman delivery system, and you can never really have too much of that, wouldn't you agree? Rated: 7/10 Nov 8, 2009 Full Review Cole Smithey ColeSmithey.com A remake of the similarly titled Swedish film,"Intermezzo" is a classic tale of romance from 1939. It is also a great glimpse Ingrid Bergman's highly developed talents at just 24-years-old. andrew m " it is impossible to build one's own happiness on the unhappiness of others" Thomas answers Anita when she pretends that her adulterous love affair with Holger will bring them happiness. This perspective is at the heart of Buddhist teachings and it is what makes Intermezzo a profound work of moral philosophy. From the moment they meet it is inevitable that Anna and Holger will fall in love but this is not simply love at first sight, it is fateful. Their tragedy is that they have no choice but to go through with their love affair but it is courage which saves them from unhappiness for themselves and for Holger's family. In the hands of such wonderful actors as Ingrid Bergman and Leslie Howard this simple tale becomes Shakespearean. For me one of the great movie of Hollywood's golden era. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member would anyone ever let go of inggrid bergman for real? Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie itself isn't good. The way it portrays the love affair between the two main characters especially sucks. However, Ingrid Bergman! You get to see her when she was 24! Enough said. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member An average film, elevated by an impressive and touching performance by Ingrid Bergman, totally sincere in her delivery, in her Hollywood debut.
