Matt Brunson Film Frenzy One of the best films ever made by Roger Corman. Rated: 3.5/4 Dec 26, 2023 Full Review Dennis Harvey 48 Hills The original Roger Corman drive-in black comedy... Oct 30, 2023 Full Review Rob Gonsalves Rob's Movie Vault Roger Corman shot this hilarious, fast-moving cult comedy in two days; it's a lot more entertaining than most movies shot over several months. Rated: B Nov 29, 2022 Full Review Danny Anderson Film Inquiry Before inspiring all of the catchy musical numbers, Corman's film remains an absurd, slapstick comedy with a sharp mix of stark depression. Aug 13, 2020 Full Review Steve Biodrowski Cinefantastique Whether the film fully lives up to its reputation is another matter, but there is no doubt that The Little Shop of Horrors has earned its small place in cult movie history. Aug 9, 2010 Full Review Jeffrey M. Anderson Combustible Celluloid Aside from all this surface nonsense, there's something interesting about the film (perhaps all the emphasis on eating and mouths). bao s Beautiful film! 😉!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review CodyZamboni Z Mostly successful horror comedy, Fast paced, Wacky characters, Amusing situations, All centered around a very funny, wisecracking voracious man eating plant. Ultra low budget sets and fx, just adds to the campy fun. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Audience Member THE JACK NICHASON SCENE WAS ONE OF THE BEST SCENE IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE BUT I DINDT UNDERSTAND HOW YOU CAN KILL A PERSON WITH DENTIST TOOLS AND WHY THE PLANT SUDDENTLY COULD HYPNOTIZE iT is BAD Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/24/24 Full Review nick s This is a very stagey production. The acting would have been okay for a play, but not up to scratch for a movie. It just felt like they didn't put in the time. The gags were superficial and the special effects weak. I think people are sentimental about this because it was the first film adaption. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/05/23 Full Review JJJJJJ J This film did a really good job of walking the horror/comedy line. Corman always does a good job of acknowledging the fact that his movies are B-movies and never tries to be more than they are. I really enjoyed this movie though I think from a social critique standpoint this film does not meet Corman's first attempt in Bucket of Blood. Good but not great. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/01/23 Full Review Red T One of the weirdest, quirkiest, bizarre things I've seen in a while. The most bizarre part is this is actually a solidly edited and paced film which is the bedrock. This merges for the most part dark comedy and horror with a bizarre plot pretty well and moves at a super quick pace. Everything else is also half decent. The music is very quirky also but isn't used much and only really has one track throughout. The cinemaography isn't bad either. This is very coarse and rough to watch on top of having a cheap low budget feel throughout which works overall. There are some very dark and even though its done in a comedic way, distrubing scenes which I can't believe were made in 1960. The humor also works suprisingly well throughout as well. The only issue is that some elements feel very hammed in and like the romance with Audrey, pretending to be a dentist, and sometimes this is a bit too quirky for its own good. That really is what holds this back while also being its greatest strength. If it took itself a bit more serious at times instead of always alternating between comedy/quirk horror, it would have helped flesh things out and not feel as cheap a knock off plot as it is. It just needed a bit more devlopment overall, reflected in the super short runtime. Anyone who is a fan of Roger Corman, Vintage Horror, or wants to see Jack Nicholson in a super early role should check this out. It's amazing too see even back than Jack was well....Jack.
