kevin c High school friends head to Tijuana to get laid led by Jackie Earl Haley, Tom Cruise and John Stockwell. On their way they pick up a woman played by Shelly Long who intends to divorce her cheating husband. 80's sex comedy with a strong cast and some genuine laughs. Hadn't watched this since I was a teenager myself. Still a no pretty fun watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Amusing movie. Early Tom Cruise. John Stockwell, such a cutie. Navin and Haley bit amusing. 5 stars for the strip club scene with Dr. Dirty John Valby at the piano. He is THE BEST Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Unfunny, misogynist, plotless and characterless garbage. Cruise was fortunate that "Risky Business" was released this same year, and that this trash was quickly forgotten. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Losin’ It is a mess of a film, that does not work at all. I’m mystified what they were even aiming for with this film because it’s not funny at all, it’s not really sexy at all, it’s just stupid. Three horny teenagers head to Tijuana to lose their virginity, and they bring along a wife looking to file for divorce and a young boy looking to buy some fireworks. It’s a mess of uninteresting and unlikable characters who kind of stumble their way through the film as if they’ve never interacted with human beings before. Perhaps the low point is when Jackie Earle Haley is transformed into some kind of nymphomaniac who is obsessed with getting Spanish Fly to roofy women. I hated him so much in this film, and they would not leave his story, instead they kept coming back to it as if he was the protagonist. Meanwhile Tom Cruise is supposed to be the sweeter more innocent kid, which is not a role that worked all that well for him. His scenes with Shelley Long were awkward instead of “romantic” or whatever they were attempting. The climax is a lackluster car chase that ends with a fizzle instead of a bang. The script was bad, the cast didn’t fit their roles, the cinematography was awful, and the music wasn’t even the best stuff from that era. I hated Losin’ It, and I’d recommend everyone avoid it unless you are a glutton for punishment or (like me) you want to complete the Tom Cruise filmography. Chris Nashawaty Entertainment Weekly Rated: B- Feb 24, 2011 Full Review Variety Staff Variety Curtis Hanson makes a commendable effort with a rather obvious story about three teenage boys who head for a wild weekend in Tijuana, hoping to trade hard cash for manly experience.
