Audience Member Superbly visualized psycho drama with enough plot twists to make you crazy. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member This one has a lot going for it. There's beautiful scenery, credible performances and some very chilling moments involving a blowtorch. But it's just not enough. The plot is preposterous. Even for a horror flick. Another issue is that there just aren't enough scares in the majority of the film. It's not terrible. But this is a Hammer film. I expect more from it. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Rather mellow Hammer thriller is a little more intelligent than others of its ilk. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Really long drawn out love angle mess between an American man who visits France and two females who run a hotel in France. It gets drawn out for too long to the point where it makes you forget about what the purpose of this movie was in the first place. I forgot this was supposed to be a Thriller / Suspense, I was thinking this was a love story. About halfway, the plot picks up and you start getting a feel for what's going on. The typical ending happens, but in such a smooth and executed away that it makes it alright. Definitely worth watching. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member More plot twists than there are feathers on a chicken. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member What you've been doing is a crime against him and a crime against God. An American in Europe begins an affair with a bar tender whose husband is in jail. His daughter is appalled by the relationship. When the madman escapes from jail the American is ready to run off with his new found love; however, dead bodies start popping up and the police don't want him going anywhere. How will this vicious love triangle turn out? "My diseased mind won't let me do that." Michael Carreras, director of The Curse of the Mummy's Tomb, What a Crazy World, The Savage Guns, Prehistoric Women, and Shatter, delivers Maniac. The storyline for this picture is very interesting and the characters are well presented. The story is a bit slow but the end is wonderful. The cast delivers excellent performances and includes Kerwin Mathews, Donald Houston, Nadia Gray, and Liliane Brousse. "People here believe a man should be able to settle his own differences." I came across this film while flicking through movies coming up on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). The plot looked fascinating (and was). I will say the film was a bit slow and I was hoping for more scenes with the serial killer. The premise was good and I do recommend watching this film once...it just could have been better. "I'm supposed to be mad so I behave like a madman." Grade: B- Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
