Pauline Kael The New Yorker What's daring in the way Gillian Armstrong presents this love story is that we don’t quite trust the emotions of either Kate Soffel or Ed Biddle. She’s sickly, frustrated, unstable; he’s an opportunist, with only one opportunity -- to make her love him. Sep 13, 2023 Full Review Paul Attanasio Washington Post In "Mrs. Soffel," director Gillian Armstrong is so enthralled with her feminist message that she never lets her story breathe. Beautiful to look at, measured and thoughtful in its content. steve d There wasn't anything interesting going on and nether were the characters. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I don't care for this movie at all. Diane Keaton is one of my favorite actresses but I prefer her in "Baby Boom" over "Mrs.Soffel" any day. If you love Diane Keaton watch "Baby Boom" not this crap. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review kathy n Underrated true story. Amazing that she did what she did. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Just saw this for the first time today. Keaton and Gibson are AHHHHMAZING!! They convey so many feelings so realistically, not the least of which is the passion the characters develop for each other. Did not expect to enjoy it as I did, but then, I knew not to expect Martin Riggs or some similar action hero joker. This was a straight dramatic performance by Gibson equally matched by Keaton. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Really nice movie. I just watched it now, 19 years later.
