Mike Massie Gone With The Twins It's no masterpiece, but the gore and makeup effects make it worthy of a viewing. Audience Member I remember watching this 8 years ago and found it the right amount of fun It's one of many creature features about a select group of creepy crawlers that unleash carnage on a community of people Director Terence H. Winkless adapts the 1980 novel by Eli Cantor from the late Roger Corman's film company They do specialize in this kind of horror filmmaking A small New England town is suddenly overrun by genetically modified cockroaches Not only do they grow bigger but they've evolved to merge with human dna making for some grotesque transformations It's up to the sheriff Tarbell, his girlfriend Elizabeth, and a scientist Dr. Hubbard to stop them Dr. Hubbard is just as much of a villain as the bugs themselves, she prides herself on illegal animal experimentation It's a bit odd that the image poster (nothing like that ever shows up in the movie) We spend a lot of time with these humans and then discussing things back and forth It's only after 68 minutes things really start going crazy, much of this gets to the point although briskly paced The roaches are nightmare fuel for anyone that can't stand these disgusting creatures Thankfully there's lots of body carnage they leave behind particularly with a cat hybrid and a memorable human-roach life form But the real treat is seeing the queen roach herself merged into a gory, monstrosity at the climax Some very good use of horrific practical effects This movie shows how horrific science messing with Mother Nature can be No masterpiece by any means but it does its job being very straightforward and that's enough Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Worked on this, My family supplied animals and, 10s of thousands, of cockroaches, for this film. It was a fun film to work on. Not so fun, catching and keeping track of, every roach, in every scene. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member Voy a comenzar diciendo ya que The Nest...es mala. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Don't eat before you watch this, especially if you hate cockroaches so much... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty fun little B-horror. The gross roach scenes are really effective, but that's probably not hard to do with roaches... The end was pretty abrupt and anticlimactic though... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member So yeah. This is one of the most disgusting and disturbing films that I have ever seen. Didn't start off too graphic, then slowly got there. Ironically, it happened around the climax and ending. That usually doesn't happen. The film is pretty nasty and follows in the same vein as other crazy films like The Blob and The Fly. There's only a handful creature feature slasher from the '80s. MGM saw a resurgence of newer generation kids finding their old films popular and as a result, the genre was brought forward to the modern day (well, the '80s at the time...). Some of them contain the charm and characteristics of the originals, others don't so much. This film was pretty good, but the plot was kind of boring and I wasn't a fan of the pacing.
