Alain E @AlainE 2d An excellent psychological crime movie with a superb performance by the best ever French actress, Catherine Deneuve, but also the young boy who plays her son. (The actor Nicolas Giraudi). This is a real melodrama with most decisions taken by the protagonists defying logic. Almost thirty years later the same director Andre Techine worked with Deneuve in In the name of my daughter, where she operates a floundering casino instead of managing a provincial dance bar. Very well photographed. The music also is interesting featuring La voix du Printemps of Johann Strauss directed by Richard Wagner. A search on the internet says that Wagner never directed Strauss! See more 04/25/2011 While this is not one of Andre Techine's finest films, I enjoyed Deneuve as a mother in rural France whose troublemaker son is the eternal 'boy who cried wolf.' When he is attacked by two prison escapees, nobody believes him. It all starts to fall apart a bit by the end, but it's an entertaining melodrama from Techine that I had never seen. On se réjouit et on est séduit par le charme Téchiné, mais on est difficilement surpris par l'ensemble du récit. D'ailleurs, Téchiné a bien du mal à encore surprendre depuis Les roseaux sauvages ou encore J'embrasse pas. Comme à l'habitude il réussit toutefois à obtenir de superbes performances d'acteurs.
