Although there is no question that this free-swinging spoof... runs out of steam, it is a wonderfully flaky example of what Hollywood has to offer in this traditionally silly summer season. Go to Full Review

If you're in the mood for some frequently inspired silliness (and have been weakened by the heat) you'll no doubt find something to laugh at in this movie. Go to Full Review

The result is a non-stop barrage of gags, many of them inspired and hilarious themselves but scattershot in effect because the premise isn't sturdy or coherent enough to hold them together. Go to Full Review

"Top Secret!" is short on coherent plot, but long on a kind of Mad Magazine manic merriment. Go to Full Review

Kilmer never breaks... it’s a work of near-sorcery, anchoring an actually serious movie that the filmmakers smother with jokes until it becomes a completely different thing. Go to Full Review

…Val Kilmer’s cinematic debut is one for the ages, platforming a personable, handsome leading man who can sing, dance and handle comedy with Peter Cushing to Omar Sharif…Kilmer had talent to spare, and Top Secret! is the place to see it on full display… Go to Full Review

Roberto N. @Hover 15h It’s kinda hard to describe how this movie works. Like a lot of absurdist humor, it tracks in the same vein of humor as the movie Airplane!. If you like that movie—- and you like Monty Python comedy? You’ll probably like this movie too... it also reminds me a little of Green Acres. Again, absurdist, fish out of water, square peg round hole humor. There’s a lot of quickie dirty cheap jokes a lot of dad jokes in here, and basically just a fun romp, an amazingly funny spoof, and times that’ll truly have your belly laughing… And other places that get slightly slow. But overall, I think it’s phenomenally good. See more Kyle M Feb 2 The quirky signature still enjoyably tickles with weary signs, appealingly bolstered by Val Kilmer’s unlikely sort of breakthrough in a far-fetched role that complicates the farce mixture’s targets and ends on a solidified eye-rolling note. (B) See more Ted B. @Movieaddicted Dec 28 3.5 stars; I've been such a fan of Zucker-Abrams-Zucker since "Airplane!" Yes, the humor is juvenile in most cases, but don't we need a dose of that every now and then as a break from all of the over-serious films out there? I've been so accustomed to Leslie Nielsen in those films that I'm missing him in this one. However, the humor is still there. Val kilmer showed a talent for humor in this early role versus the dramatic action roles he now plays. See more Lionel H @Lionel.H Aug 24 there is not a single scene in this movie that is not hilarious. from the end less joke songs to the names of of the characters or latrine. I would watch this movie 20 times and still laugh. See more Ed . Aug 22 I'd rather pop a cyanide pill... Crass and juvenile, which I can accept if the dialog is funny. But it ain't very funny. Val Kilmer in his film debut showed his skills as a fine actor. Christopher Villiers also did a fine job. Otherwise, it's no secret this is a dud. See more Sergio A @Sergio83 Aug 8 “Top Secret!” is one of the most ingenious comedies ever made. Its humor has not only stood the test of time but still surprises today with the creativity behind each scene. The jokes aren’t limited to dialogue, they’re carefully crafted through the script, editing, practical effects, and staging. Every shot is filled with comedic details, many of them visual, inviting multiple viewings to fully appreciate its brilliance. The film masterfully blends parody, satire, absurdity, and cultural references with impressive precision. Val Kilmer’s performance, in his cinematic debut, is magnetic, striking the perfect balance between deadpan seriousness and the film’s ridiculous situations, which makes everything even funnier.
