Alec B It guts the novel of a crucial plot element (unnecessarily so, as it's a rather short film), but the grand Gothic style is rather entertaining. Also, while Fontaine is solid as Eyre its Welles, who is absolutely perfect as Rochester, that steals the show. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/13/23 Full Review Will G. F It's literally too dark but Peggy is always adorable, plus orsen is cool. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review steve d Not among the best adaptations of the story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review daniel k Paul Rudd was not in this movie Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Luca D I really loved this movie. Joan Fontaine wouldn't have to say a word this whole movie and it would still be great, her facial expressions alone showing all of the emotion. Orson Welles gives his usual great performance with long dialogues that sound as if written by himself. Another black and white epic. No matter how many remakes they make of these film adaptations of gothic novels and novellas, they will never be as good as the 30s -40s black and white renditions. I would watch this movie again and again I could never see it getting old, if so maybe even better with age. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/10/22 Full Review deke p Wow! ORSON WELLES was terrific then.
