Audience Member Strange and unique in all the interesting ways. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Surreal exploration of a developing relationship, one which you'll need an appreciation of art-house movies to appreciate this one. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting angle on life at that age . Portrayed is what's supposed to the directors unique style, his first attempt at that. The story and presentation does draw you in quite well. Some scenes especially are well crafted. The story doesn't tend to end in a finality and leaves it a bit vague but intriguing never the less Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Leos Carax's (arguably France's greatest working director) debut picture is a surreal romance for the ages! Shot when he was only 24, the film carries a craft that seems to come from a man eons older, but it's mentality assuredly reflects his young age. It's that rare film that really understands youthful ennui, and the desperation to find love, captured in a plethora of different film styles and methods that borrow from only the greats, yet never feels derivative. Frequently hilarious, as well as climactically heartbreaking, Boy Meets Girl feels like the lovechild of Truffalt and Godard...if that child happened to listen to a lot of punk rock! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Visually interesting at times, but rarely engaging on any other level. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I was fascinated by the filming and dialogue..a really interesting piece of work. Scott Tobias The Dissolve Carax excels at creating a space that's a luxury for viewers to occupy. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 17, 2014 Full Review Keith Uhlich Time Out The director's slight uncertainty creates a fascinating tension that works in Boy Meets Girl's favor. You empathize with the characters' struggles even as they are both kept at a critical distance. Rated: 5/5 Aug 6, 2014 Full Review Calum Marsh Village Voice A debut feature of extraordinary passion and vigor. Aug 5, 2014 Full Review Nicholas Bell IONCINEMA.com Carax's debut sweeps us into the hopeful melancholy of the nocturnal Parisian streets, and we succumb easily to his idiosyncrasies, all caught up in the coattails of an impossibly young Denis Lavant. Rated: 4/5 Nov 3, 2020 Full Review Jose Solís PopMatters In Boy Meets Girl, Carax shows audiences a scrapbook of his most beloved cinematic possessions. Rated: 7/10 May 22, 2020 Full Review Cole Smithey ColeSmithey.com [VIDEO ESSAY] "Boy Meets Girl" is a passionate cinematic work that echoes the brilliant dramatic effects Leos Carax has achieved with his other films ("The Night is Young," "The Lovers on the Bridge," "Pola X," and "Holy Motors").
