Yasser Medina Cinefilia Curtiz directs it with the pulse of a punch that rarely loses its melodramatic effect with the performances of the cast and a tough plot about jealousy, betrayal and boxing corruption. Full review in Spanish Rated: 7/10 Feb 9, 2022 Full Review Meyer Levin (Patterson Murphy) Esquire Magazine Straight, tight action drama with good fight scenes. Edward G. Steve D The script isn't worthy of the cast. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/24 Full Review Ed M Fun old Hollywood movie. Killer cast: Edward G. Robinson, Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/04/21 Full Review john m I feel like this is the first film of Michael Curtiz's that has very interesting character dynamics, and the boxing scenes are pretty cool. I can see Scorsese coming to this for "Raging Bull." It still doesn't really cohesively explore the seedy underworld it sets up though, and ends up being melodramatically forced in the end. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Edward G. Robinson, Humphrey Bogart, Bette Davis, with Michael Curtiz in the director's chair. What's not to like? No one did these socially conscious crime dramas like Warner Brothers. OK Wayne Morris in the lead role was a little flat but the rest of the cast put in great performances. Forget the Elvis Presley remake It was films like this that inspired Scorsese to make Raging Bull. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This gangster-boxing film with Edward G. Robinson, Humphrey Bogart and Bette Davis, though predictable, really scored a knockout with me. It definitely ranks amongst my favourite boxing films now. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member You cannot possibly go anywhere near wrong in a film that has Edward G. Robinson, Bette Davis, and Humphrey Bogart...Knockout entertainment--Entertaining all star boxing drama with a strong emotional charge, and superb interpretation... Fast Paced Boxing and Betrayal!!
