This examination of Fidel Castro's revolution brings to light the human rights abuses that his regime wrought on countless individuals, including political dissidents, poets and homosexuals. Director Néstor Almendros uses various interviews with Cuban refugees to address issues within the Cuban government that led to persecution and forced labor for many who disagreed with Castro. The interviewees include famed poet Armando Valladares, transvestite performer Caracol and Castro himself.

02/05/2009 Stunning, but tragically tedious documentary about the hardship and cultural repression endured by Cuban exiles around the globe after Castro's revolution. About 30 minutes too long and overly familiar, this film is consisted almost entirely of interesting yet plodding testimonies that all virtually tell the same story, thus making the impact feel rather neutered. Although I found the information and presentation extremely valid, this film is strictly for die-hard history buffs; especially for those who really want to immerse in the later years of the Cold War when Communism roughly peaked.
