London-based newspaper reporter Mike Anthony (Clark Gable) is assigned to cover the marriage of heiress Sally Parker (Joan Crawford) to the greedy Prince Igor (Ivan Lebedeff). His rival, Barnabas Pells (Franchot Tone), sets out to interview a famed aviator, Baron Otto Spandermann (Reginald Owen), and his wife, Hilda (Mona Barrie). When Mike falls for Sally, the two attempt to escape to Paris, but they are closely trailed by Barney, who is looking to scoop the story.

Simply a perfect example of old Hollywood think, here is a baldfaced copy of "It Happened One Night" (only 2 years before!) with the volume turned up to eleven. And so there is the rich girl on the run, check, the reporter on-the-sly following her, check, madcap adventures on the road, check, PLUS competition with a best buddy/fellow reporter, lowdown, dirty spies, the threat of international intrigue, a mysterious map, oy vey! Add a slapdash pace, a plane ride, a train ride, a truck ride, a car ride, and a night at the Palace of Versailles AND dancing ghosts! Whew! Have they rolled the credits yet?

Love on the Run is an incredible film. It is about a runaway bride and an undercover reporter get caught up in political intrigue. Joan Crawford and Clark Gable give fantastic performances. The screenplay is good but a little slow in places. W.S. Van Dyke did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the humor and romance. Love on the Run is a must see.
