Marjorie Baumgarten Austin Chronicle Rated: 3.5/5 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times Sniper expresses a cool competence that is a pleasure to watch. It isn't a particularly original film, but what it does, it does well. Rated: 3/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal Slow & under-plotted for what this should have been. Billy Zane is a little too afraid of diving back into "Dead Calm"-ish headcase territory. But there's some beautiful location photography & it's clear Tom Berenger has studied actual snipers' behaviors. Rated: 2.5/5 Feb 10, 2024 Full Review Malcolm Johnson Hartford Courant It's difficult to see waves of gung-ho action nuts racing to see this saga of an old hand and a young hotshot tramping though miles of tropical greenery. Jun 6, 2018 Full Review Chuck O'Leary Fantastica Daily A solid action movie with an interesting performance by Tom Berenger as a gruff and tough loner. Blu B It's a cool concept but it's very unremarkable overall. Music isn't bad at times but a bit generic overall. Everything else is just very ok. Zane & Tom don't really have much chemistry one way or another, the villians are pretty generic stuff, none of the characters have that much depth either. The camerawork is pretty basic stuff, and none of the snipes are that memorable. There is an occasional nice shot here and there. But man it's pretty generic stuff overall. It can feel like once they meet up and start the mission, stuff just sort of happens with not thetightest flow of events until we get to the actual mission site. There can be some farfetched stuff like them sniping each other while being pursued by the enemy and all too. It's odd, there is a solid amount of production value, Tom Berenger should be a solid choice, and the idea on paper is pretty cool, but I really am struggling to find much to say about it beyond that. Nothing is really bad or broken about it, it's biggest problem is just it's so unremarkable than anything. This is something you either put on in the background while you work, study, or clean or just skip it all together. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/25/23 Full Review Rosana B "Por acaso tem um jeito certo de rolar a montanha?" Melhor parte… Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 09/17/22 Full Review Audience Member Great flick. Classic action movie of the time. Still a fun watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/12/21 Full Review Audience Member Silly 90s action flick. It's surprisingly low-key for a movie of this nature. I mean, seriously, it's basically just Tom Berenger and Billy Zane wandering around the jungle for an hour and a half, bickering. While that can sound like fun in itself, it doesn't make for the most thrilling action movie... Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/21 Full Review Audience Member Tom Berenger's very strong screen presence, together with some compelling visuals, should have made this jungle adventure a classic. However, it suffers from some irritating dialogue and poor character development. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
