Steve D Nowhere near Cooper's best. Slow and aimless. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/07/24 Full Review Russ Post-war audiences probably enjoyed this mix of predictable Hollywood fluff and stock footage. The writers snuck in an inside joke - Cooper's Navy buddies give him a copy of "A Farewell to Arms" while he's in the hospital; Cooper had the lead in a movie version years earlier. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Audience Member Big, expensive, and sometimes boring. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member good historic actioner Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Weak script, and historically not very accurate. The battle scenes, mostly taken from actual WW2 battle footage, were certainly worth watching though. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Nell Dodson Russell Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder A gripping film of navy and navy air force operations in World War II, made, unbelievably realistic in spots by clever insertion of action shots of actual combat in the Pacific. Oct 30, 2019 Full Review Emanuel Levy EmanuelLevy.Com Though not one of Gary Cooper's or director Daves' best pictures, this is a passably engaging chronicle of theAmerican aircraft carriers from the 1920s to WWII.
