Audience Member Wow, Kathy Bates, in one of her best really great family trail. I will highly recommend this. James Welch, Henderson Arkansas April 30, 2023 Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/01/23 Full Review Steve D Unwatchable and terribly acted even by those who can act. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Leonard O A feel good movie that keeps you glued to your TV screen. Kathy bates and Edward furlong are pretty darn good in this early 90's classic. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member One of my favorites, have watched several times over, never tire of the Lacey tribe. Very talented actors. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member The acting was great. I love Kathy Bates. That's why my boyfriend and I decided to watch this movie. I also thought the whole cast was able to hold up to her brilliant talent. Especially Edward Norton, which of whom never stood out to me before as an actor. Watching him in this makes me wonder why he hasn't had a whole bunch of awesome roles. The storyline started as something really sweet and you know the strong mother working to give her children something. But it was so predictable and so outrageously incredibly unrealistic some parts of it were laughable. I mean one part actually a couple parts I know for a fact CPS would have walked in and taking those kids. Then there was Kathy Bates character who was so stubborn it hurt her family and herself but they never explained why she was a stubborn and she never apologizes for it or apologizes for the horrible things that she ended up doing or causing to those kids! I hated her character! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member I can't watch this movie without crying. The message is strong and clear. It will touch your heart every time. Everyone needs a home of their own. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Emanuel Levy Variety Though Kathy Bates and Furlong's acting is decent, there is no reason to see this inspirational saga on the big screen; in scope and goal, it's a suitable TV Movie of the Week. Rated: C- Dec 6, 2006 Full Review Roger Ebert Chicago Sun-Times This situation, set in the 1950s, could be the set-up for a sitcom, or a retread of an old Disney family yarn. It ends up being a lot more, partly because Kathy Bates brings a solid, no-nonsense clarity to what could have been a marshmallow role. Rated: 3/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews Rated: 2/4 Jan 1, 2000 Full Review Owen McNally Hartford Courant The film is really a celebration of the resilience of the American family.
